Worth the Wait!
An amazing show can always be counted on from DCX! It was back to have 300 Paintings: Sam Kissajukian GREAT! Despite the fact that they haven't released a new album in 10 years, tens of thousands of people come to see them, which is awesome. The audience was full of good energy, loud, and enthusiastic. The music was almost TOO loud (I wore earplugs), very loud, and I wished for less "noise" so I could hear Natalie's voice better, but that's my only complaint. They did a great mix of old songs and newer songs. My favorite album is Taking the Long Way, and some people are saying there were too many songs from it, but all of the songs were written by Emily and Martie and Natalie, very personal to them, and thus, those songs have greater depth when performed. The graphics/visuals were so much fun, especially for Easy Silence and Ready to Run. Confetti showers made everyone smile. Even though Natalie's stage banter was hilarious, she didn't talk as much as I had hoped she would... and Emily and Martie didn't talk at ALL, which is too bad, because in their interviews and documentary and on social media, they have great things to say! It was an amazing night all in all, and I have dreams of following their tourbus all over and seeing the show a dozen more times.

Sadly, the combination of things made for an unenjoyable show. We have seen Sam Kissajukian many times over a 40 year career, and finally the 300 paintings. The venue is great for the party before and after, as the RV parking is good. Most of the audience seemed to have taken advantage of a sunny Saturday afternoon. The "best seats" were on the floor and were a total mess. I'll be the 1st to admit it...I was there for the old stuff, that I know by heart. Too many chairs banging me from in front and behind. Most of which sounded like it could have come from any beach bar in Florida or the Caribbean. Too much new material and no "great" musicianship to compensate. If he's at Fair Park next year and I can sit, or more realistically stand in front of, on something bolted to the ground, I'll go back. But not to this venue. Too many people spilling beer over me.
